Campus Connect Namibia
Privacy Policy
Last updated 4 September 2026
Campus Connect is a platform for students at Namibian universities. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who else can see it, and how to get rid of it.
Who we are
Campus Connect Namibia operates the Campus Connect mobile app and this website. If you have a question about your data, or want a copy of it, write to admin@campusconnectnamibia.com.
What we collect
Everything below is either something you type in, something you upload, or something the app needs to work. We do not buy data about you from anyone else.
When you create an account
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address and password | To sign you in. The password is stored hashed and we never see it. |
| Full name and display name | Your display name is public. Your full name is not shown to other students. |
| University, region, field and year of study | To place you on the right campus and show campus specific content. |
| Bio and profile picture, if you add them | Shown on your profile. Both are optional. |
If you ask to be verified
Student verification is optional. If you use it, you upload a photo of your student card and enter your student number. This is the most sensitive thing we hold. It is visible only to Campus Connect administrators reviewing your request, is never shown to other students, and you can use the app without it.
Your phone reads the number off the card itself, so that you do not have to type it. That happens on your device and the photo is not sent anywhere to do it. Once you submit, the photo is sent to Anthropic, who read the card and tell the administrator reviewing it what it says and whether it matches what you entered. They do not decide anything: a person approves or rejects every card. Anthropic do not use it to train their models and do not keep it afterwards.
What you post and send
- Posts, comments, reposts, marketplace listings and event submissions, with any images attached
- Chat room messages, and direct messages between you and another student
- Campus Chomie submissions. These are published without your name, but we do store which account sent them, so that we can act on abuse
- Reports you file about other people's content, including who filed them
What the app records as you use it
- Who you follow, what you like, save, and RSVP to
- Game scores and which trivia questions you have already been shown
- When you were last active, used to show whether you are online
- A push notification token for your device, if you allow notifications
- Crash reports if the app fails, which include a stack trace and your account id, but not your name, email or anything you typed
What we do not do
- No advertising. There are no ads in Campus Connect and no advertising identifiers are collected.
- No selling your data. We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs. The app contains no third party analytics, no behavioural profiling, and no session recording.
- No location tracking. The app does not request or collect your device location.
- No contacts, calendar or microphone access. The camera and photo library are used only when you choose to attach an image.
Who can see what
| Visible to everyone on Campus Connect | Visible only to you and staff |
|---|---|
| Display name, profile picture, bio, university, field and year of study, your posts, comments, listings, follower counts and game standings | Email address, full name, student card photo and number, direct messages, saved items, blocked accounts, reports you filed, and your notification settings |
You control two of these in Settings. Profile visibility decides whether your profile can be found by everyone, only by your campus, or nobody. Who can message me decides who may start a conversation with you. Blocking someone stops them messaging you and removes the follow in both directions.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the app. They process data on our instructions and for no other purpose.
| Provider | What they handle | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Neon | The database, and the sign in system that holds your email and password | London, United Kingdom |
| Vercel | Hosting for the API, and storage for uploaded images | United States and Europe |
| Expo | Delivering push notifications to your device | United States |
| Apple and Google | The notification services your phone uses. Google Firebase is used on Android only | United States |
| Anthropic | Reading a submitted student card, so that an administrator can check it. Only the card photo, only when you submit one for verification | United States |
| Sentry | Crash reports, containing a stack trace and your account id | Germany |
Because these providers are outside Namibia, your information is stored and processed abroad. We may also disclose information if we are required to by law, or where it is necessary to investigate a serious safety issue on the platform.
How long we keep it
- Your account and its content stay until you delete them.
- Deleting your account starts a 14 day grace period, in case you change your mind. After that your profile, posts, comments, messages, images, student card photo and sign in record are permanently deleted.
- We keep an anonymous record that an account was deleted, with no name, email or id attached, so we can show that the deletion happened.
- Messages you sent to another student remain in that person's conversation, in the same way a text message does.
- Moderation records, such as a report you filed, are kept after deletion without identifying you, so that decisions about repeat behaviour remain reviewable.
Your choices
- See and correct your data. Most of it is editable in the app under Edit Profile and Settings.
- Delete your account. Settings, then Delete Account. No email to us required.
- Get a copy. Write to admin@campusconnectnamibia.com and we will send you what we hold.
- Turn off notifications. Either per category in Settings, or entirely in your phone's own settings.
- Skip verification. The app works without uploading a student card.
Security
Connections between the app and our servers are encrypted. Passwords are hashed by our sign in provider and are not visible to us. Access to administrative tools is limited to named staff accounts, and campus moderators can only see their own campuses. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell affected students promptly if we become aware of a breach involving their information.
Children
Campus Connect is intended for university students and is not directed at children. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you believe a younger person has an account, write to admin@campusconnectnamibia.comand we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or who we share it with, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
